Debit Card Closure Guide

A step-by-step guide to closing your Treecard Debit Card account. All of your questions, answered. Please complete all steps by October 9th.

When is the Treecard debit card closing?

Your Treecard debit account will be automatically closed on October 9th, 2023.

Do I need to delete the app/my account? Can I continue walking, earning rewards, and planting trees?

You don't have to close your Treecard account, just remove funds from your debit card.

What do I do next?

Prior to closure, you must do these three things:

  1. Withdraw your funds from your Treecard debit card account.

  2. Discontinue any automatic direct deposits to your Treecard Account

  3. Transfer all recurring payments (subscriptions, bills, etc.) made with your Treecard debit card to another payment method.

Step 1: Withdrawing Funds

How do I withdraw funds from my debit card account?

Remove all remaining debit funds from your account, follow the steps below:

  1. Select the ⚙️ icon on the top right in the Card Tab

  2. Click on “Withdraw Funds”

  3. Enter the amount you would like to transfer out

  4. Review the bank account you would like to transfer the funds to, then click on “Continue”

  5. Please confirm the details and the estimated clearance date

  6. Once you see the Success screen, your transfer has been initiated

Please note:

  • Transferring funds has a processing time of 3 to 5 Business days.

  • There is no minimum amount for transfer outs

  • You can only transfer out a maximum amount of $1,000 a week.

  • You must have linked your bank account at least 24 hours prior in order to use this feature

Please note: If you do not see the option or the transfer tab, please make sure you are at least on version iOS 1910 / Android 191

What happens if I don’t withdraw my funds by the closure date?

We will issue a check with your remaining funds to the address linked to your Treecard account. While we would rather that you withdraw funds using these methods, please ensure your mailing address is up to date.

Please note: Processing and mailing your check may take over two weeks.

Will I be able to withdraw funds through an ATM?

Yes, you can withdraw your funds using an ATM. Treecard charges no fees for using ATMs, however you may be charged a fee by the ATM operator.

Can I continue to make purchases with my debit card until it is closed?

As long as your account is in good standing, you can continue to make purchases until the closing date. However, we strongly recommend withdrawing funds instead.

Step 2: Stopping Deposits

Can I still make deposits prior to card closure?

Yes - all deposit capabilities will be active until card closure. However, we highly recommend not adding any funds to your Treecard account, as they will need to be removed by closing date.

I have recurring direct deposits set up - how do I turn these off?

If you have automatic/recurring direct deposits, we encourage you to turn them off manually:

  1. Click on the “Card” tab and find the “Add Money” button

  2. Select “Recurring Deposit”

  3. Click “Cancel Recurring Deposit”

My account autoloads when my funds drop below a certain amount - how do I turn this off?

If you have Autoload activated, we encourage turning it off manually in app:

  1. Click on the ‘Card’ tab

  2. Click on the ‘+Add money’ button

  3. Select ‘Autoload’

  4. Select ‘Cancel autoload’

What happens if I am using my debit card to pay bills, recurring subscriptions, etc...?

We encourage you to transfer payments over to a different account as soon as possible. If you do not take action, the authorization request and transaction may be declined.

I have a Pots savings account - what is the closure plan?

You will receive your final payment this month for your Pots deposit. After which, your funds will be transferred to your debit card. From there, you can remove funds by following the steps shown above.

Will I be able to access my transaction history?

You will not be able to see your transaction history in-app, but we will send you a historic overview of your transactions via email on the card closure date.

General Questions:

How will card closure be communicated?

For three weeks prior to card closure, we will send out bi-weekly email reminders to members with remaining funds with reminders to withdraw. Push notifications will also be sent repeatedly if you have funds remaining in your account.

On October 9th, 2023, we will send an email formally closing the card. It will also provide a list of all historical transactions.

What should I do with my card after it’s inactive?

Make sure to safely and securely dispose of your wooden debit card.
